A lodge founded by a town and its navy

Your guests will celebrate inside a one-of-a-kind building steeped in Port Angeles history.

The five-story Naval Elks Lodge on First Street, with Port Angeles Harbor behind it
  1. 1896

While the Pacific Fleet held summer exercises in the harbor, Port Angeles city leaders and Navy men founded Naval Lodge No. 353 on September 28.

  2. 1927

The five-story lodge, designed by architect J. Charles Stanley, was completed at the corner of First and Lincoln.

  3. 1928

At its dedication it was the largest fraternal lodge in the city and among its most elaborately equipped buildings.

  4. 1986

The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 2.

In honor of its Navy charter members, the lodge received special permission to take the name "Naval" instead of its city's, making it the only Elks lodge in the country not named for its location.
